After months of anticipation, we were absolutely delighted to finally welcome two brand-new static caravans to our site here on the Isle of Mull. Although we purchased them before Christmas, actually getting them here proved to be quite the journey—and not without its fair share of challenges!
As anyone familiar with island life will understand, logistics can be tricky at the best of times. We’d been patiently waiting for a delivery slot with CalMac, and it wasn’t until last week that we finally got the call. With only a couple of days’ notice, everything suddenly sprang into action. We had to quickly organise the disconnection and removal of the two caravans being replaced, while also coordinating with our carrier to collect and transport the new arrivals. It was a bit of a whirlwind, to say the least.

A huge thank you must go to Chris McCready at Overburns Caravan Sales, whose persistence and determination were key to securing the ferry booking. Without his efforts behind the scenes, we might still be waiting.
Because of the sheer size of the caravans, the usual ferry options simply weren’t suitable. In a fantastic effort to accommodate the delivery, CalMac arranged for a special sailing of The Lord of the Isles. Seeing the caravans being transported on such a vessel really brought home just how big an operation this was!

Of course, no big plan ever goes entirely smoothly. At the last minute, we found ourselves without the help we’d lined up to position the caravans onsite. Just when things were starting to feel a bit stressful, help came from an unexpected and very welcome place. Stephen and Anna MacRae, guests staying on the site—and old friends—stepped in without hesitation. They even managed to get their son over to lend a hand, and together they were absolutely fantastic.
And as it turns out, who needs a tractor when you’ve got a Land Rover? What followed was a display of skill (and nerves!) as the caravans were carefully manoeuvred into place. There were definitely a few heart-in-mouth moments, especially while bringing them over our bridge, but Stephen handled it like a true expert. His towing skills were nothing short of impressive.
In the end, despite the challenges, everything came together beautifully. The new caravans are now in place and have already had their first guests, and we couldn’t be more pleased with how they look.
This experience was a perfect reminder of the resilience, teamwork, and community spirit that make island life so special. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part in making it happen—and we’re excited for what the season ahead will bring.
We can’t wait for more guests to enjoy these fantastic new additions!
