Sunrise at Tobermory Campsite: When the Day Begins in Colour

There are some mornings when it’s worth getting up just a little earlier.

This beautiful sunrise was captured here at Tobermory Campsite by guest Mark Hampton, with our shepherd huts and touring pitches sitting quietly beneath a sky that seemed to catch fire. The deep orange and pink glow stretched across the horizon, with the hills and mountains in the distance forming a perfect silhouette. It is one of the things we love about being here – you never quite know what the sky is going to do next.

And then the sky changes: what starts as a hint of colour gradually becomes a spectacular display of fiery orange, coral, pink and purple, lighting up the landscape behind the campsite.

For our guests moments like this are a lovely reminder that coming to Mull isn’t just about the places you visit. Sometimes the best memories are the ones you weren’t expecting – a dramatic sky over your morning coffee, a dipper in the burn, an eagle overhead or simply the quiet of the island before everyone else wakes up.

A different kind of island escape

We’re lucky to be just a mile or so from Tobermory, while still having plenty of space and countryside around us. Our pitches, caravans and shepherd huts give you a comfortable base from which to explore Mull – but there is plenty to enjoy without going anywhere at all.

You can sit outside with a cup of tea, watch the changing light, listen to the birds and take in the views.

And if you’re really lucky, you’ll wake up to a sunrise like this one.

Mull has a way of making you slow down, look around and appreciate the little things.

Perhaps that’s one of the best reasons to come and stay.
