We had a beautiful walk this morning on Tobermory Golf Course just a short drive from the campsite. There were lovely views over to Calve Island that shelters the town from the open seas of the Sound of Mull. There is a legend that a Spanish galleon, often cited as the Florencia or San Juan de Sicilia, sank in the bay in 1588 with gold onboard, and there are still attempts being made to find this sunken treasure.

The golf course really is “a good walk spoiled” and is open to visitors throughout the year.  Green fees are £25 (adult) and £15 (children) and are valid for the whole day. It’s a nine-hole course and lovingly maintained. You pay fees online or at Browns in Main Street  where you can also hire clubs.

If, like me, you prefer to walk please make sure to keep any dogs close to you and to avoid disturbing the golfers. There is a marked route around the coastal side of the course leading to a stile which takes you down to the Lighthouse Path. A short climb up past the war memorial will bring you back to the start.

I especially like this walk in the morning to get the best view of the sunrises.
