There’s been a noticeable shift in recent years. Campsites across the UK are steadily giving way to rows of motorhomes, hard standings, and serviced pitches. And while there’s no denying the comfort and convenience they bring, something quietly gets lost along the way.
Here at Tobermory Campsite and Caravan Park, we’re choosing to hold onto that something.
Because this place started with tents — and tents are still very much at the heart of what we do.
There’s a simplicity to tent camping that’s hard to replicate. It’s about travelling lighter, slowing down, and feeling just that little bit closer to the landscape around you. It’s the sound of the wind in the grass, the early morning birdsong, and the ritual of brewing a coffee outdoors before the day begins.
And those mornings? They’re our favourite.
There’s something incredibly special about the camping field as it gently comes to life. The soft hum of a kettle on a stove. The quiet chatter of fellow travellers. Damp towels draped over guy ropes. Boots left to dry. People taking a moment — just a moment — before packing up and heading off to explore.
It’s unhurried. It’s real. And it feels a world away from the bustle of Tobermory just down the road.
We’re see a wonderful mix of visitors. Alongside those arriving in cars motor-bikers making their way across the island, cyclists taking on Mull’s winding roads, and walkers discovering its quieter corners. And of course, nature lovers — drawn here by the promise of sea eagles, otters, puffins, wildflowers, and wide open spaces.
That’s the beauty of Mull. It invites you to explore, but it also encourages you to pause.
Our campsite reflects that. It’s peaceful, relaxed, and just far enough from town to feel like a proper escape — while still being close enough when you fancy a wander into the colourful harbour.
We’re not against motorhomes — far from it, we’ve got plenty space here for them too. But we do believe there should always be space for tents. Space for those who want to keep things simple. Space for the kind of camping that feels connected, grounding, and quietly joyful.
Because sometimes, all you really need is a patch of grass, a good view, and a fresh cup of coffee in the morning.
And we’re proud to keep that alive.
